Finance & Stewardship Committee
Summary of Responsibilities

The following information is taken from the United Church of Canada Manual, as well as the Guide for Board and Committee Members of Congregations in the United Church of Canada

Members of the Stewardship Committee shall be a minimum of 6 within a small Pastoral Charge. At least one third shall be Stewards. Ex Officio members should include:
1. Chairmen of the Committees of Stewards
2. Treasurer of the M&S Fund
3. 2 members from the UCW
4. 1 member of the Christian Education Committee

Summary of Duties of the Finance & Stewardship Committee

1. Set financial objectives for the Pastoral Charge.
2. Inform the Pastoral Charge why the funds are needed and how they will be expended.
3. Ensure that a just proportion is maintained between money spent for local needs and the amount provided for mission outreach through the Mission and Service Fund.
4. Promote and cultivate a sense of Christian Stewardship among all the members, yound and old, using materials and resources available from the Department of Stewardship Services and the Committee on Education for Mission and Stewardship.
5. Organize periodic visitations of the entire congregation for stewardship purposes, seeking commitment through approved methods of church finance.
6. Report regularly to the Official Board, and prepare an annual report for the Pastoral Charge.

Members of the Finance and Stewardship Committee should:

· understand Christian Stewardship to mean that the whole of life is a trust from God and that, consistent with this understanding, we must account to Him for the use we make of our time, talents and money;
· be familiar with available United Church materials and resources, particularly those which deal with the Mission and Service Fund and with education for mission and stewardship;
· be prepared to suggest new and attractive ways to keep the whole congregation informed about the mission enterprises of the Church;
· be willing to participate in the every-person visitation plans of the committee;
· practice stewardship in the management of your own time, talents and money.
