GENERAL FOR BOTH CHURCHES
Do you know what our Minister and members of our congregations are involved in?
provided by Pastoral Charge Treasurer Christine Kempster
One of the items raised at the Official Board meeting held on Nov 1st was the fact that members of the congregations are unaware of the activities Marie-Claude is involved with. Since she is not one to blow her own horn, I volunteered to summarize what I am aware of.
Another action item I took away from the Official Board meeting had to do with mission work done by our congregations. I volunteered to identify those activities for the congregations.
First I’ll cover some of the items keeping Marie-Claude busy.
Of course you all know that Marie-Claude visits with members of our congregations who are unable to get to church on a regular weekly basis. They look forward to their time with Marie-Claude, sharing bible readings, prayer and spiritual moments with her.
In addition to these regular visitations, Marie-Claude’s support during illnesses and subsequent passings has been greatly appreciated by various members of our congregations. Her genuine caring for her flock is evident and felt by many. For example, Marie-Claude returned from a trip to Los Angeles and went directly to a member’s home having heard that her husband had passed away.
This past Sun afternoon, Marie-Claude was asked to deliver the sermon at the covenanting service in Perth for their 2 new ministers. She occasionally joins other ministers in Renfrew Presbytery to discuss various topics. For example, once a month she joins an inter-denominational ministers’ support group in Smiths Falls. Another monthly activity is meeting with a women ministers’ support group.
Marie-Claude was one of the original members of the Social Concerns Committee in Carleton Place and area. One of the initial actions was the introduction of the Hungry Lunch Café.
In addition to all the duties related to caring for her Pastoral Charge, it is highly recommended by the UCC that ministers get involved in activities not directly related to their pastoral charges. Often the congregations are not aware of the participation of their ministers in these additional pursuits. And of course the congregations do benefit from these works which add value to our larger community. Also, the pastoral charges become recognized for the contributions of their ministers.
In case some of you weren’t aware, let me share with you some of the areas where Marie-Claude’s special skills have been recognized and requested by the UCC.
Did you know?
The Ethnic Ministries committee of the UCC has asked Marie-Claude to be part
of their Planning Team for the intercultural ministries event to be held in
June 2008. As part of this Team, the Ethnic Ministries committee had asked
Marie-Claude to attend their first meeting from July 12 – 14 in Los
Angeles, which she did. All expenses were covered by the UCC. Activities are
now underway to plan for the 2008 event to be held in Toronto.
Did you know?
The UCC has asked Marie-Claude to be part of a committee established to propose
an educational package. This package will be designed to help the various
diverse groups within the UCC to better understand each other and work together
towards a unified mission within the UCC.

Boyd’s celebrates its 175th anniversary in 2008 In 2008 Boyd’s will celebrate its 175th anniversary. To celebrate, Boyd’s will be issuing a cook book. Boyd's Cookbook should soon be ready for sale. In preparation for our 175th anniversary, we thought it would be appropriate to include an excerpt from our Minute Book (with a bit of prompting from Alice!). Thanks Dorothy! Miscellaneous
When attending St Paul's United Church please refrain from parking between the two driveways (9600 and 9602 Hwy 15) opposite the church, and also keep back at least 10 feet from all driveways on either side of the church. The cars are causing decreased visibility and people are having trouble getting out of their driveways.
St Paul’s United Church – now has its own mailbox!
